Stawisha Dada project

Banking
Akili Dada, a well-known organization dedicated to empowering African girls and young women, has launched the Stawisha Dada project in Kilifi County with the goal of eliminating harmful socio-cultural norms that hinder gender equality and women’s rights in the area.
The project is based on the belief in the potential for transformation among young women in Kilifi County and addresses issues such as early and forced marriages, female genital mutilation (FGM), lack of access to education and economic opportunities, and limited participation in decision-making processes.
By collaborating with various stakeholders, including the government, civil society, and the informal sector, the project aims to achieve key objectives such as raising awareness about gender equality, empowering women and girls to challenge harmful norms, enforcing laws that protect women’s rights, increasing access to education and economic opportunities, and building partnerships for long-term sustainable efforts.
During the inception meeting, stakeholders highlighted the importance of community support systems in fostering young women and promoting cultural transformation. The project prioritizes collaboration and integration across various sectors to promote an environment that is safe and free from discrimination and violence for women and girls.
With the support of the Kilifi County Government, the 20-month initiative aims to empower women and girls and create sustainable connections. This project represents a major stride towards a future where gender equality is not only a goal but a tangible reality in Kilifi County.
