The Kenya-Finland Steering Committee officials gathered for a productive meeting to provide updates on the ongoing program targeting gender-based violence (GBV).
This initiative, which is being implemented at the national and county levels, focuses specifically on Kilifi, Bungoma, and Samburu counties.
Head of Development Cooperation at the Finnish Embassy, Hon. Anu Ala-Rantala, led the steering committee members in attendance. Chief Officer Ms. Agnetta Karembo, representing Kilifi County, along with representatives from Samburu and Bungoma, were also present. The session included the participation of representatives from the State Department of Gender and Affirmative Action in Nairobi, as well as Ms. Michelle Ell, the program’s Chief Technical Advisor.
During the meeting, various topics were discussed, including the progress made by duty bearers in their efforts to prevent GBV and effectively address the needs of survivors and their families. Key discussions focused on mediation, counseling, and the necessary coordination tools for capacity building and service planning in relation to GBV risk vulnerability. Additionally, testimonials from program beneficiaries were also reviewed.
Since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Kilifi County, within the sub-counties, the program has been actively combatting the pressing issue of GBV.
