Empowering Survivors, Ensuring Justice
The Kilifi County Gender Department is dedicated to combating Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and providing comprehensive support to survivors. Our GBV Support services are designed to offer immediate assistance, long-term care, and advocacy to those affected by violence.
Comprehensive Support Services
Emergency Assistance:
We offer immediate help to survivors of GBV through crisis intervention services. This includes emergency shelter, medical care, and counseling, ensuring that survivors receive the urgent support they need in times of crisis.
Legal Aid and Advocacy:
Our legal team provides guidance and support through the legal process, helping survivors navigate the complexities of seeking justice. We assist with filing reports, accessing legal representation, and advocating for survivors’ rights within the judicial system.
Psychosocial Support:
We provide counseling and mental health services to help survivors cope with trauma. Our trained counselors offer individual and group therapy sessions designed to support emotional healing and resilience.
Rehabilitation and Reintegration:
Survivors receive assistance with rehabilitation and reintegration into their communities. This includes vocational training, education support, and economic empowerment programs to help them rebuild their lives and regain independence.
Community Outreach and Education
Awareness Campaigns:
We conduct awareness campaigns to educate the community about GBV, its impact, and available resources. These campaigns aim to change attitudes, reduce stigma, and encourage reporting and support for survivors.
Training and Capacity Building:
We provide training for community leaders, law enforcement, and health professionals to enhance their ability to respond to GBV. Our capacity-building initiatives focus on improving skills, knowledge, and coordination among stakeholders involved in GBV response.
Support Groups:
Our support groups offer a safe space for survivors to share experiences, receive peer support, and build a network of solidarity. These groups play a crucial role in the healing process and in fostering a sense of community.
Collaborative Efforts
Our work is strengthened through partnerships with local and international organizations, including the Gender Violence Recovery Centre (GVRC), Population Services Kenya, and Population Services International. These collaborations enhance our ability to provide holistic support and implement effective GBV interventions.
Commitment to Safety and Justice
Kilifi County is committed to creating a safer environment for all its residents. Through our GBV Support services, we aim to ensure that survivors are protected, empowered, and supported throughout their recovery journey. Our approach is grounded in compassion, respect, and a strong commitment to justice.
