Empowering Kilifi Together: Nurturing Growth, Building Sustainable Futures

Addressing and Preventing Gender-Based Violence in Kilifi County

The Gender Department is committed to addressing and preventing gender-based violence (GBV) across Kilifi County. This mandate includes the development and implementation of strategies aimed at preventing GBV, providing comprehensive support services for survivors, and raising community awareness about the issue.

Actions in Place

Safe Havens for Survivors

The department, in collaboration with partners, has established safe shelters for GBV survivors. These shelters offer a secure environment where survivors can access medical care, legal aid, and psychosocial support.
Community Awareness Campaigns

Regular educational campaigns have been launched to raise awareness about GBV, challenge harmful cultural norms, and promote gender equality. These campaigns involve community dialogues, media outreach, and school programs.
Legal Support and Advocacy

The department has set up legal aid clinics to assist GBV survivors in navigating the justice system. Advocacy efforts are also ongoing to strengthen laws and policies that protect against GBV.
Training for Service Providers

Specialized training programs have been conducted for healthcare providers, law enforcement officers, and social workers to ensure they are equipped to respond effectively to GBV cases.
Partnerships and Collaboration: The department has established strong partnerships with local and international organizations to enhance the effectiveness of GBV prevention and response initiatives. Collaborative efforts ensure a comprehensive approach to addressing the issue across Kilifi County.
