Hon. Dr. Ruth Dama Masha (CECM)
Dr. Ruth Dama Masha is currently serving as the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) overseeing Gender, Youth, Sports, Culture, Social Services, Disaster Management, and Special Programs in Kilifi County. With a wealth of experience spanning over a decade as a Health Practitioner, she brings a unique blend of medical expertise and a passion for community well-being to her role.
Dr. Masha holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery from The Hubert Kairuki Memorial University in Tanzania (2008), a Master of Arts in International Studies and Diplomacy (2018), and a Master of Medicine in Psychiatry (2022), both from The University of Nairobi.
With a fervent dedication to mental health advocacy, Dr. Masha is a trauma counselor and a champion in providing psychological first aid, advanced trauma care, and cardiac life support.
Her active involvement in professional associations such as The Kenya Medical Association, KMPDU, Kenya Psychiatrists Association, and the East Africa Young Psychiatrist and Trainees Association enables her to integrate mental health initiatives with broader social programs effectively.
Driven by her commitment to holistic well-being, Dr. Masha focuses on promoting mental health, addressing gender-based violence, and fostering cultural awareness through comprehensive training programs. By empowering community gatekeepers, government administrators, and gender champions with psychosocial support skills, she enhances access to care and support networks for individuals across various intersecting spheres.
Collaborating with partners, Dr. Masha has spearheaded numerous initiatives within her department, including implementing GBV and Gender Development policies, advocating for the Kilifi Youth Policy, and promoting disaster risk management.
Her efforts extend to providing pro-bono legal aid, promoting male involvement, and offering scholarships to teenage mothers, among other impactful programs.
Prior to her current role, Dr. Masha held positions as a Senior House Officer at prominent healthcare institutions such as Kenyatta National Hospital and Mathari National Referral and Teaching Hospital. She has also contributed to medical camps and conducted mental health advocacy through various media platforms.
Committed to advancing global goals for equality and justice, Dr. Masha’s advocacy aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals, including Gender Equality (SDG 5), Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).
With her motto “Pamoja Tujenge Kilifi” (Together Let’s Build Kilifi), Dr. Masha continues to be a driving force in creating positive change and fostering inclusive development in Kilifi County and beyond.
