Drugs & Substance Abuse

The community of Kilifi County is prepared to voice its opposition to the issue of drugs and substance abuse. This stance was demonstrated at a meeting attended by key stakeholders, including County Commissioner Joseph Biwott, CEC Dr. Ruth Dama Masha, and the Director of Youth from the state department, Madam Faith. Various organizations such as Hand in Hand, Omari Project, Plan International, and Tujijenge Initiative, as well as individuals who have battled substance abuse, came together with a common goal of addressing this urgent issue.
Throughout the discussions, it became evident that there is a significant lack of awareness regarding the needs of individuals affected by substance abuse. Despite this realization, a glimmer of hope emerged in the form of the strong resolve of victims to take back control of their lives and seek appropriate treatment. Hence, a revolutionary proposition was presented: the creation of a detoxification camp capable of accommodating an initial cohort of 40 to 50 individuals.
This pioneering program aims not only to deliver essential detox services but also to provide comprehensive prevention, treatment, and integration efforts. Through a multi-faceted strategy involving awareness campaigns, therapy sessions, social engagements, and empowerment workshops, participants will be equipped with the necessary resources to break free from the chains of addiction.
The success of this initiative hinges on collaboration across multiple sectors, including health, education, gender, and youth. Moreover, the involvement of entities like NACADA and the formation of a Kilifi County Drug Users Committee at the grassroots level underscore the commitment to holistic community involvement.
As plans progress swiftly, meeting all regulatory requirements in a timely manner, Kilifi County is poised to take the lead in tackling the challenges faced by its most vulnerable residents. Through combined efforts and unyielding determination, the community is prepared to usher in a new era of resilience and optimism, ensuring that Kilifi County becomes a symbol of empowerment and rejuvenation for all its inhabitants.
