Kilifi County recently marked the successful completion of a specialized training program for 50 women entrepreneurs in various sectors such as agribusiness, automotive, creative arts, beauty, fashion, hospitality, catering, entrepreneurship, and digital business. These women were provided with the necessary skills to access financial resources and expand their businesses.
The event was attended by prominent guests, including CEC Dr. Ruth D. Masha , Chief Officer Agnetta Karembo , Director of Gender and Youth Cyrillus Mwangome, and FIDA Kenya’s Executive Director Ms. Anne Ireri.
FIDA-Kenya‘s Executive Director stressed the importance of addressing financial challenges to combat social issues. Kilifi County aims to lead by example in creating economic opportunities for women, demonstrating that financial empowerment is crucial for reducing vulnerabilities and promoting sustainable development.
The county government, through the Gender Department, will work closely with women and young girls in business across sub-counties this year. This collaboration involves identifying these entrepreneurs, providing tailored support, and proposing the establishment of a dedicated collective fund managed by the Gender Department to help women and young girls start viable enterprises. This fund will offer opportunities for growth, personal development, and community improvement.
Key takeaways from this program highlighted the significance of strategic planning, social networks, mental toughness, and sustainability. These lessons will inform future initiatives to empower women economically, serving as a model for other counties. Kilifi County’s dedication to supporting women entrepreneurs emphasizes the crucial role of financial empowerment in advancing gender equality and community progress.
