Gender Equality & Fairness

Clients
Mr. Simon Sang, the General Secretary of the Dock Workers Union, along with Ms. Nuru Awadhi, who serves as the National Gender Chairperson, and Mr. Benson Thoya, who holds the position of Organizing Secretary, paid a respectful visit to CEC Dr. Ruth Dama Masha in order to engage in conversations about the creation of a platform that promotes sharing knowledge and building capacities. The primary objective of this platform is to encourage collaboration in the facilitation of capacity building, with a particular focus on achieving gender equality and fairness.
The Dock Workers Union, made up of employees from the Kenya Ports Authority, was established with the main aim of bringing together all workers in the organization. Being affiliated with the Central Organization of Trade Unions, Kenya (COTU-K), and the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF), the union is dedicated to advocating for the rights and well-being of its members.
The union’s objective is to tackle significant concerns such as gender-based violence (GBV), gender stereotyping in the community, substance abuse among youth, and alternative methods of resolving disputes. By working together with the relevant department, the union aims to combine efforts and resources, allowing the Kilifi County Government to create a platform for exchanging ideas and experiences, fostering collaboration among coastal counties. This initiative will offer a unified platform for confronting shared obstacles and promoting collective aspirations in the region.
