I had the honor of participating in the International Widows Day 2024 commemoration with CS Hon. Aisha Jumwa Katana and other women leaders at Barani Secondary School in Malindi sub-county. This day focuses on advocating for the rights of over 258 million widows worldwide, aiming to mobilize resources and establish policies that empower them with education, fair employment, healthcare, and protection from violence.
As a government, we remain dedicated to the social and economic empowerment of widows through initiatives such as affordable credit via the Wezesha fund, cash transfers, job creation, school feeding programs, and advocacy for women’s land rights. I encouraged women to use government platforms, join cooperative groups, and actively contribute to their communities.
