Kilifi GBV Awareness Event

Consulting
The Desire youth intiative , in partnership with the Nawiri Africa Social Justice Centre, has made significant progress in the battle against gender-based violence (GBV) through the organization of a transformative community sensitization event at Juwaba Social Hall in Kilifi. This event was aimed at addressing the urgent issue of femicide and GBV, featuring a powerful theatrical performance that effectively depicted the challenges women face in accessing justice.
The gathering served as a crucial platform, bringing together grassroots women, government gender stakeholders, justice actors, local administrators, and civil society organizations (CSOs). This diverse assembly facilitated important collaboration, raising awareness about the specific obstacles encountered by intersex women and shedding light on the significant hurdles faced by women with disabilities in their quest for justice. Participants actively contributed to the development of practical strategies to combat GBV in Kilifi, marking a significant milestone in the effort to create safer communities.
In addition to tackling GBV, the event also focused on economic empowerment, offering a session designed to equip women with skills to reduce their susceptibility to GBV, promote inclusion, advance gender justice, and empower women to build resilience against violence.
The event garnered strong support from the Gender Department under the leadership of CEC Dr. Ruth Dama Masha, the National Council of People Living with Disabilities, the County Commissioner, and the OCS, all of whom were present. Their involvement emphasized the collective dedication to eradicating GBV and fostering gender equality.
